I just received this, so I can’t account for durability of the mat, but I did test a couple different markers to see what would/wouldn’t work on it. I I did not want to have to use dry erase crayons. While regular Expo dry erase markers did not clean completely, I found Expo Vis-a-Vis markers wiped completely clean off the mat. Maybe wet erase markers are what should be used, as opposed to dry erase.

Durable plastic mat (about the size of placemat) to help with learning the states and their capital cities. The backside with states/capitals are blank so you can self-test to see how you're doing. Use the markers they recommend so it will wash off for repeated use as regular "dry erase markers" won't come off completely. Since it's washable, we're leaving this on the breakfast table to read/study while eating. Also using it to help plan vacation trips LOL Good value!

it kept my grandchildren fully engaged while eating their meals at the table. must buy the white board crayons separately so you can wipe off with ease. highly recommend

The map is great. It is easy to read and is a nice size. It is a stiff material that can be easily stored. Easy to clean. Works great for basic US geography.

If you use dry erase markers you cannot remove . Only use washable crayons .

This "mat" is an excellent aid for learning the states. One side has all of the states with hames; the other has just the outlines of each state. Call them NAMES and BLANK 1) Learn the names (and locations) by looking at the NAMES side. 2) Test yoursef by looking at the BLANK side and trying to recall the name.. 3) If you want to practice reciting the names, the BLANK side has an alphabetical list. Some reviewers had difficulty writing on the mat. I haven't tried the writing method, preferring simply to use it as a visual aid. For that it's truly excellent.

These dumb mats only work with their own markers, apparently. We used dry erase markers and they won’t clean off. Ruined in one use. Absolutely useless.

The mat itself is great, however the dry erase pens that I have are hard to erase on it. Teacher Created Resources suggests their own marker however I cannot find it on their site to purchase it.

They're colorful and beautiful and my 3 year old grandchild loves them. We use Expo fine tip dry erase markers on them and have no issue cleaning them after use with water.

The ink comes off easily when you try to wash it, even by hand. Not good for using with food because even light scrubbing with water and dishsoap, or just plain water will take off the ink. Wiping it too roughly will take off the ink. Basically, if you get little bits of food stuck to it there's no way to get the food off without taking off the ink with it.
