We have been through several sets of expensive outdoor lamps at our island home and we have finally given up on all metals including stainless steel. These plastic lamps are the way to go. They are inexpensive, durable and DO NOT rust or corrode. And they actually look surprisingly attractive mounted to our cedar-shingle siding! We are very satisfied with this unexpected solution to our constant battle with the aggressive elements (corrosive sea air and strong winds).

Living on the Pacific Coast comes with its share of problems. The biggest problem is salt air and rust. This is a replacement for a like item in white. The white seemed to discolor fairly easily. Thought I would try the black and see if I had better luck. Fingers crossed.

Materials are not a polycarbonate. It's a simple polymer plastic that MAY be uv resistant. Two of the internal seven screws are rusted. The acorn cap nut for the 3/8 inch mounting bolt is not shown in the pictures and does not match the body color of the light. Unit is made in China but description highlights a flag and USA based company.

I live just blocks off the Pacific Ocean, where most products rust in a very short time. With the outside being constructed out of plastic my last set of these lights lasted me 15 years before the plastic began breaking down and I no longer found them presentable. In the area I live that is a fantastic lifespan for an exterior light. I highly recommend the product if you live along the coast.

It may be plastic and cheap to some but this is perfect for salty waterfront living. At the cost of this fixture they could easily include stainless screws and still make a ton of profit.
