Just as claimed, this actually works well as a connector between 4-inch Schedule 40 PVC to 4-inch S amp; D triplewall HDPE pipe. Unfortunately there are many other connectors and couplings out there that claim to do this, but do not. The fit is snug, but not so tight that the pipes have to be forced to fit, even on cold days. I use both the PVC Schedule 40 and the Samp;D triplewall drain pipe (both are sold in big box home stores, but the PVC is in Plumbing, and the Samp;D is usually in the garden supply area) for dust collection; the latter because it is much cheaper than the PVC Schedule 40. Neither of these are what the pipes are made for but many woodworkers and shop hounds are using it for dust collection systems these days. Note though that that Samp;D pipe is made from HDPE and if you want a permanent bond, you will need a good plastic bonding epoxy to bond it to this PVC fitting on that side. On the other side where it is PVC fitting to PVC pipe, regular plumbing solvent will work fine.

When my yard raised up over the years from building turf, this coupler raised my pop up drain about 1.5-2 to match the level of the yard. I had to use some PVC glue to hold the drain down though.

I was looking for a connector to type 40 (regular thick wall pvc pipe) to type 35 (thin wall pvc pipe) in a low pressure drainage system. That's what I was looking for and the comments here indicated this would work. Needed the part today, it arrived in time but didn't fit. Ran out and got another part (male 40 to male 40 sleeve) which made the whole thing work but it looks Rube Goldberg-ese. Maybe they don't make the 40 to 35 adapters anymore but I got one 20 years ago for another part of the system.

Used these to make a plexiglass distribution box to convert one of my 6 dust collection trunk lines to two 4 lines. The exterior stepdown creates a solid stop against the holes I drilled in the plexi. No expensive pvc 6-4 wye fittings needed. Note that distribution box doesn't maintain flow as well as fittings would, but I've got short runs and 1900cfm to play with, so worth the sacrifice in suction. Wouldn't mind if it was a little stronger (thicker walled) of a fittinf, but that would decrease the interior cross sectional area and reduce flow. Works great.
