A year ago or so, the water pump on my old Jeep decided to bite the dust while I was driving. Since I was near an auto parts store, and since replacing the water pump on an AMC 4.0L is a pretty easy task, I figured I'd just fix it right there -- with one major issue being that most of the gasket makers available require a full 24 hours or so to set and cure. I had places to be, a job to go back to in a few hours. When I saw this, I figured... why not? It's supposed to cure in a minute, it says on the box, and that it's for heavy duty applications, fleet vehicles that can't wait 24 hours for a gasket to set, stuff like that. I figured that if it didn't set, if I did develop leaks or something, then I'd redo it when I had more time. No problem: this'd at least get me back on the road.And... it worked! Good lord, it worked amazingly, and has held up for well over a year now, even with my decidedly sloppy application. When they make stuff like this, I have to wonder why Permatex even bothers making any RTV that takes 24 hours to cure when this is so much quicker and easier to work with. One thing to keep in mind is that when they say it sets and cures in a minute... they're not lying! You need to get this on quick, and make sure not to smudge it with your fingers beforehand (ask me how I know this) because if you take your sweet time it'll cure before you have a chance to even get the part bolted on! I hear there's a version that cures in 90 minutes, which might be a better choice for people who aren't in a hurry, but for me... I keep a tube of it in the car at all times, just in case.Excellent product.
