Xfinity (Comcast) sent me a message saying my old modem was too old to receive the higher speed signal that my plan demands. So I needed to upgrade and choose this Motorola MG8702 because I wanted to buy something instead of renting to save money in the long run. It pays for itself in about 1.5 years or so.Installation was easy and so was setting up this device. Really easy actually. And I didn't need to call Comcast and sit on hold forever.After you plug it in and connect with an Ethernet cable, I was able to use the free Xfinity app to register my device with Comcast - just follow the steps and it only took a few minutes. Once Xfinity acknowledged my new device, it automatically registered this unit to my account and started to get the faster speed almost immediately. Then, in combination with the free Motosync app, I was able to adjust the settings of the modem with ease. You can also tap into these settings if hardwired to a PC but having the option to use the app from anywhere is very convenient and easy. I was able to rename and assign the username and password of my old unit to this new one using the app so I didn't need to re-sync all my connected devices which was very time saving. If you buy this device, go ahead and install this Motosync app to your phone now as you wait for it to arrive to save time later. You will need it.Also, between the Xfinity app and this Motosync app, the unit was smart enough to automatically install the latest firmware. Granted, my unit did get hung up once while installing the new firmware but everything went through after one restart. Other than this tiny hiccup, I have no complaints. Been using this for a couple months now and has been reliable. Have not needed to restart it since.This model also has a USB port which is mainly used for diagnostics but it can also be used to charge a USB powered device in a pinch; this is a nice, simple extra.I guess my only complain is a very minor one - the 4 Ethernet ports on the back are aligned in a 2x2 square configuration. I would have preferred a 4-in-a-row vertical stack as I think accessing the ports are little easier that way but this is very minor and doesn't really make a difference.Recommended.

Easy to set up and can do whatever I need to from my iPhone!

I bought it to avoit to pay teh Comcast monthly rent and so far is worth of it. Unfortunately you need to dedicate some time (30 min online) to get the product activated by the ISP. But after the initial configuration everything is fine.

I bought this to upgrade my old Motorola and what a difference the speed of the WiFi alone has jumped form about 70 to 300mbps.I use Spectrum internet and they say I should be getting around 500mbps with my wired connection to my PC but the WiFi is crazy fast.not to happy with Motorola support had trouble connecting to Spectrum and call Motorola and I was put on a call back when it was my turn wish they would have told me it would be the next day.but all in all I would definitely recommend this modem router to a friend.
