I didn't know I needed it until I bought it. So much easier than trying to route cables through channels and make sure everything is hidden. Do be warned, my cats love to chew the edges and rub on it. So it's cat proof.

Pro Tip: When you go to slide the fabric rectangle over the metal frame make sure to lay it on the ground. If you try it while standing up it will appear to be a few inches too short to go over the frame. It will fit, just put it on floor.Comes with three screws and three loop mount clips to attach to desk.

Frame is longer than the cover. I had to remove the end corner pieces for it to fit. Not bad for the money. Maybe I received a faulty product.
