Quality tool - you can tell it was well-thought out in the design and is well-made. But.... it didn't fit the clips on any of the 4 cars - 3 subarus and a ford - that i tried it on. I probably could have made it work by grinding little notches in the clips but that's just too much work. back to the custom-filed vise-grips for me... i really hate dinging lisle tools since I normally love their tools. They're such a good company and make quality tools but this one misses the mark. some dimensions and better pictures of the business end would be well-appreciated and save aggravation...

Made the removing installing of the drum brake shoe hold-down washer easier, but this is not an essential tool -- unless you do drum brake jobs often. Lisle has a good reputation for durable tools, but a cheap tool or just a long-nose or vise-grip plier would do this job well enough.

the concept of this tool is good, but application universally is not,,i bought this planning on using it on a corolla,, the spring retainer clips are smaller that this tool can handle,, this tool is meant for cars with bigger clips,,don't know if they have a tool that would work better on smaller cars

The one I received has a different handle than the one in the product listing. Mine has a plain red handle, instead of the clear black one in the ad. The collar on the end that is supposed to be free spinning was seized up upon receipt. Had to use a pair of pliers to loosen it. You can spin it by hand now but not without effort. It will probably still work, but I may return it. The other Lisle brake tools I purchased years ago with the clear black handles were much better quality.

I bought this tool because I got tired of removing the clips with pliers and swearing a lot... Former heavy equipment mechanic and I sold a lot of specialty tools like this when I retired. I now build golf carts for a hobby and 98 of them have rear drum brakes. This little tool works very nicely removing the clip. The head spins so you push the clip down, hook the flat on the pin and twist it. Takes about 3 seconds. My only complaint is the handle... Your hands get greasy...It's a smooth hard plastic handle. Lisle should really use dual material, or texture it. I roughed it up with some 80 grit sand paper myself and like my modification to it...But that's just me.

This is a great tool. I've been using it regularly for over 3 years. This tool easily removes brake shoe retainers on many cars. The silver collar at the end of the tool is free spinning and used to put pressure on the spring. While pushing on the spring, turning the handle will turn the shaft of the tool. The shaft of the tool fits over the retaining pin, so when you turn the handle the pin will turn so that you can line it up with the hole and then the shoe retainer can be removed. This tool does not work on all cars it when it does it works amazingly well. This tool says that it is for imports, but it does work on many American cars too. The pictures show it being used on a Jeep Wrangler.
