Put this in the volume position on my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Wish I di it years ago, the volume can now go to 5,6, and 7 without blowing the windows out. Not sure why Fender does not put this type in the volume from the factory.

I recently had my early ‘90s ‘59 Bassman reissue serviced, and the tech replaced the original tubes with Tung-Sols. For the preamp tubes he used all 12AX7s because that's what the Fender schematic calls for, and he probably didn't stock 12AY7s. It sounded great, but it did seem to break up earlier than it used to (I had replaced the original first preamp tube with a 12AY7). I was in a local music store and they had a box of new JJ preamp tubes. I didn't think they'd have a 12AY, but lo and behold, they did, and it was cheap. I replaced the Tung-Sol 12AX7 in the first position with the JJ 12AY, and the Bassman immediately got clearer, rounder, and sweeter, with more headroom. Definitely recommended.
