This is a stellar program in terms of content and training. I am very pleased. However, I had to take a star for each of the following. No interface! You install it on your computer, then you have to find the file and manually run it. As a geek, I created a crude shortcut and it executes just fine now. But my heart goes out to the average 34;non-geek34;! Another star was lost because the PROGRAM WILL NOT RUN WITHOUT JAVA. With the big browsers having BLOCKED Java, you have to root out an old version of your browser, or activate IEv11. Serious geekage here! I got it running and I LIKE the program, and if you can jump through these hoops, I think you'll like it. It's in desperate need of user interface, and an alternate to Java.

I had to buy this book for a class for my major. The CD-ROM was a pain. I had to install Java onto my laptop to play it, which wasn't bad. However, even after i had installed it the program would just open and close right away. My boyfriend ended up having to write some code to make it stay open. I would've exchanged it, but the replacement wouldn't have gotten here on time. Other classmates have had the same problem.

This is my initial review and I may change my review once I am able to make use of it. It comes with two Disc, one is a DVD and the other is a CD-Rom. The CD-Rom instructions are to download the application to your computer so that you can watch the lessons BEFORE you watch the DVD. Not sure if everyones book is packaged this way but in the back of my book it had the DVD first and the CD-Rom on the other side. I didnt even notice the CD-Rom till later. I installed the CD-Rom using the Read-Me doc that they have included in the instructions. We installed Java as instructed. Once the lesson screen successfully pulled up the lessons themselves were unreadable. In the left corner of the screen is a tab that says Lessons, you left click and it will provide a drop down menu, that drop down menu has the "Lessons" in numerical order. That allows you to skip around or go back to a desired lesson if you choose. However my lesson list was not legible. I could choose a line of garb and it would pull up a lesson but I was not able to make sense of the lesson since the script is not readable. I do not know if that is an error with the CD-Rom with how its written or an error with the software I have on my computer to read the CD-Rom, so far it seems like both computers I have can not make sense of the lesson script, both computers are MACs also. In the mean time the book producers Dawn Sign Press have a website that does a troubleshooting PDF that you can download. It has pictures so you can see if what you are doing is correct. There is also an email in that PDF that if you are still having issues you can reach out to them via email or call them.
Also listed on their site is a sample syllabus that breaks down the lesson plans and what lessons correspond to the CD-Rom and when to break out the DVD. That information would have been helpful if included in the book.

From what I have read it makes a lot of sense as to why some interpreters and ASL students struggle with fingerspelling. I am anxious to get into the book and the lessons more so that I can utilize the information there. Once I am able to get into the lessons then I will update my review based on the philosophy contained in the book.

Nationally Certified Interpreter. I LOVE this product!!
I have reviewed a sampling of products for fingerspelling receptive skills, because everyone who isn't a native signer knows the struggle.

You won't be disappointed. I learned about this from a discussion among other interpreters. Two others who weren't involved in the conversation purchased this at the same time, and were equally excited.

Aside from this, the only recommendations I would endorse are ASLpro under "QuizMe Fingerspelling" for speed-adjustable practice, and a workshop given by William J. Ross. Get this book/DVD. It's worth every cent.

I had been wanting this set for such a long time. I finally pulled the trigger and spent the money on it. WOW! Is it fast. Be prepared to see fingers flying! It is after all "rapid fingerspelling". Fingerspelling is my achilles tendon, it throws me off every time if the word is more than five letters. So I see the possibilities with this program in helping with that issue. This is a very good aid if you are serious about your future with ASL.
