The tool is a simple well made adapter that allows you to plug into your OBD II connector from a 12 volt jump pack to prevent losing ECM data and other various on board computer settings presets before removing your battery. The cord and connectors have a reasonable quality feel should last a mechanics lifetime if not abused. I wish I would have purchased this before my nightmare started when the battery charge on my Mini Cooper dipped below acceptable levels right in the middle of me resetting the on board computer data for my brakes, oil other scheduled service items. This resulted in a half day of troubleshooting diagnostics not to mention a couple hundred bucks worth of code reader tools to help reset and program the ECM, ABS brakes nearly every sensor imaginable. My case was nearly catastrophic when my car wouldn't even recognize the key fob that of course wouldn't start the car or unlock the brakes that automatically applied thinking the car was in some sort of collision. I lost every setting imaginable including window positioners that wouldn't even allow me to raise the windows and it was starting to downpour to make matters even worse. The likelihood of this happening is rare but it happened to me and this simple tool would have prevented it all. A fellow mechanic likened my problem to experiencing a power outage in the middle of flashing your computer bios. I learned a big time consuming lesson now have the right tool to prevent a catastrophe like this from happening in the future. I thought the worst thing that could happen would be to lose a few radio presets but boy was I wrong.
