I purchased this to replace a broken valve spring on an '02 Ford Explorer with a 4.0 SOHC. This tool worked perfectly for us, and with it, we were able to do in 5 minutes what we had tried to do for 45 minutes with crowbars the day before. Not to say that this will work with absolutely all 4.0 SOHC engines, but it worked like a dream on mine.

It was reported before that "Will NOT work on the SOHC 4.0 liter engine!" WRONG!! However with two small changes I can say for certain that it works great. All that was needed was to drive out the ping and replace it with a 1/4" clevis pin, or you could use a 1/4" bolt. Also may need to file a little off the back edge of the base of the tool for some valves to clear the head casting. The two parts need to be separated because the base needs to rotate horizontal to get it on the on top of the valve spring, and the top part rotates vertical around the cam lobe. Then the two can be joined with the clevis pin. Works great and had to NO problem removing all twelve of the camshaft roller followers.

The right tool for the job on any Ford 4.6, 5.4, or V10. It would have been MUCH worse without.

This worked fine and I did all 16 valve seals on a 4.6l ford. It is a must, no other style will fit. I did not use the plastic protector that goes in the valve spring for the valve seal and it still worked fine, just be careful.

Total garbage. Poor quality. Attached a wrench and it cracked in 2 pieces on the first pull.

The tool wasn't greatly built but considering the job without it wasn't even an option

This tool worked exactly as designed. I'd not used a CTA tool before, but I was very glad I discovered them. It was almost $30 cheaper than the often derided Trick Flow version. This, along with a pair of CTA valve stem seal pliers I also bought, made the work on my 1992 Crown Vic a breeze. If you have a Ford 4.6L, this is a must-have tool as well as a good value.
