When should I use a muzzle?
If you have a dog that is likely to bite or bark in stressful social situations like vet or grooming trips, a muzzle can be a great training tool. However, you should not use a muzzle to simply 'fix' aggression. Your dog must be taught to be comfortable and relaxed while wearing the muzzle first, then introduce it in social, stressful situations as a tool to help your dog relax.
For how long should I use a muzzle?
An ideal amount of time wearing a sheath-style cloth muzzle is no longer than 20 minutes. Slide it on prior to entering a potentially stressful situation, and remove it once it has passed. If you require a more permanent muzzle, consider leather strap or metal basket muzzles. Never leave the muzzle on while your dog is unattended, and never use the muzzle in place of training to stop destructive chewing.

It was suggested to me from vets and behavioral specialists to try a soft muzzle. Had for just a little over a month and seems to be working so far with training. It seems to calm my dog. Not tight on her at all. Seems comfortable. Can be adjusted.

This thing works great! I bought this for my 4.8 lb chihuahua, who does what chihuahuas do and bites. I was able to groom him and take him to the vet!

I have giant breed rabbits (Continentals) who seem intent on maiming each other. We started doing supervised bonding but they'd still end up bleeding before we could separate. These enable them to be together without the blood, though I did have my one boy manage to nip a small tuft of fur off the other with it on. But otherwise they're just body slamming each other but not able to utilize their greatest weapon, their teeth. So for that, I'd recommend these. And they keep the nose clear so no breathing concerns.
