I have a full-blown home theater in my basement (with BIC America speakers in my center, front LR and surround LR positions), aka Man Cave, but I needed something with more bass for the living room TV. I had a crappy little Yamaha 8 sub that is part of an older 5.1 speaker setup. Recently, it has been starting to fart while watching TV, which means it's on its way out the door. All I needed was a replacement subwoofer, and this beautiful sub fills my whole living room with a great bass sound, and doesn't take up much more room than my old sub did. For one, it looks great, both with and without the felt cover. Second, all I had to do was unplug the RCA cable for my old sub and plug it into the new sub. Third, fire it up!I immediately fired up YouTube and picked some songs that had good bass lines - Look At Me Now by Chris Brown, Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth (plus a few more Megadeth songs), Hey Ya by Outkast.I had the crossover freq set at 100Hz and the volume set to 50. I immediately noticed that I had to turn down the bass volume, not because it couldn't handle it, but because it was filling up my whole living room and was a bit overpowering. My living room is very hard. It has hardwood flooring and standard painted walls with nothing to absorb the sound. I do have a tight woven carpet in front of the TV, but it doesn't do much to mute the sound. My living room also connects to the dining room at a right angle, so the bass tends to bounce around a lot.I still have more time to break it in, but so far I am very happy. It is 10x more powerful than the sub it replaced and I no longer have to worry about distortion. BIC America makes really good speakers. I have a whole set of BIC speakers in my Man Cave and have been very happy with those as well. For the price, this sub cannot be beat!
