I was amazed at how hard and sharp this is, having no previous experience with porcupine quills. Oddly enough, mine came with just the quill in a bag - no insert, no information. I bought this as a novelty at the same time I bought some feather quill pens, with the intent to show them to two young boys in the family. They (and I) thought it was neat. I haven't tried to actually write with it yet, as that wasn't really the point. I just am pleased to own a real porcupine quill!

This quill is absolutely amazing , it write beautifully , I would recomment a few test runs , and tap the extra ink off the out side in your ink. very much worth the money

One thing that really bothers me about this product is that I cannot use it for writing.One dip (dip meaning dipping in ink) is only good for writing a word, and I have to dip it again to write more, which makes it almost impssible to write with it.Moreover, the ink tends to burst out when the pen first touches the paper, creating a large stain.If you are purchasing this for a decoration, and not for writing, I strongly recommend this product.Cheap, decent quality, etc,However, if you are expecthing to use this product as a PEN, do not buy.
