I used this on my reef tank that had a huge green hair algae bloom out of no where. I read other reviews on this and was skeptical, but I wanted to do something to get rid of the hair algae besides removing all the rocks and scrub them. This is to be used once every 3 days until the algae is gone. At first it didn't look like it was doing much, but after a week or some the green hair algae length began to shrink down. It took about 2-3 weeks for it to almost disappear, but it did work and I can see the surface of the rocks again. After reading people's reviews on here it seemed that people were using this in fresh water tanks and it killed everything. A marine chemical shouldn't be used in a fresh water tank. The dosing on my 55 gallon tank was just over a half of the cap every three days. Read the directions and get the right chemical for your tank. I would have given it 5 stars, but it does take a long time for it to work. Still beats scrubbing all the algae.

It is what it is. If you have algae, then I hope you research and know why you have that issue. This is a bandaid though. Fix the underlying issue. If your rocks are full with algae, I would strongly suggest that you harvest the hair algae out of the tank in clumps and then utilize this to kill off the excess. It will work but do as the instructions say. My number one suggestion if you havent changed anything in your tank and your tank has been set up a while with no issues, and all the sudden you start having hair algae grow.... Change your lights! The spectrum has changed. Some of theses reviews.... THIS IS FOR API ALGAEFIX MARINE. Why are you guys using this in freshwater tanks? I hope the description has been changed since your reviews and people didnt dump in something that says marine on the bottle into their freshwater tanks.

I've had aquariums for aquariums for many years and had algae problems throughout those years. I've always just lived with the algae and waited out the cloudy/green water that results from too much algae. When my cichlid tanks became so green and cloudy that I couldn't see a few inches into aquarium I bought this product out of desperation. Wow! Total transformation over 24 hours. I wish I had before and after pictures. All of my fish are fine. Great product!

Only dosed twice and black hair algae is turning a different color so i know its dying, fish are good, great product do a water change right before you dose again on the third day and your fish will be fine,it will eliminate excess nutrients in the water to help aid in defeating the algae also. Dont use liquid fertz either dirt your tank or root tabs. If your gonna use hi lights use Co2 so the good plants can better use the nutrients and light. There is only two things algae needs to survive nutrients and light. My problem was to much nutrients cause i re dirted my 60gallon but good product my tetras are fine.

We have some lilies and the water often has some kind of green scum growing in it. After adding a few caps of this stuff, the green scum was gone. However, be careful not to use it too long as the lily leaves got brown edges after use.

My reef tank is 13 years old and I've been battling long hair algae for the past 5 years because of the phosphates that accumulated over time in my deep sand bed. I tried everything: low nutrients, high magnesium levels, granular ferrix oxide, lettuce nudibranchs, and just about every other technique known. Algaefix is the first thing I that worked to dramatically decrease the hair algae! After about 4 treatments of Algaefix, the hair algae started turning brown and falling off. It killed about 90% of the hair algae, and then my skimmer increased its production exporting the waste. Now my rocks are almost completely clear and I can see the purple corraline algae instead. At first I was worried that Algaefix might harm some of the rare corals and creatures, but so far I haven't seen any bad effects on the other inhabitants. It doesn't affect the coralline algae either, only kills the nuisance hair algae. This helped me regain control in an old well established reef tank. First, of course, try normal best practices such as keeping low nutrient levels. I highly recommend this product for winning the war on hair algae when nothing else seems to work.

I discovered Dictyota algae in my 28G Nano Cube after it spread throughout much of my live rock, and from what I read this is one tough algae to eliminate considering it thrives in high quality water conditions. For two months I increased water changes to twice a week, limited my feedings, and continually checked water conditions for low phosphates. I read a few positive reviews about Algaefix Marine so I gave it a try. I'm very pleased with the results. Following the instructions with one dose every three days, I started seeing results after the third dose. I started seeing loose pieces of Dictyota flowing in the water column, and ending up in the filter. After the fourth dose, my Dictyota problem is already 95% eliminated. I also had a few finger algaes that are gone, and I haven't had any algae on the glass since I started the treatment. For whatever it's worth, I would turn off my overflow/filter pumps for about 30 minutes when I would add a dose of AlgaeFix, but I left my two power heads on to circulate the water. My plate coral emitted a secretion after the first dose, but showed no signs of stress after the first dose. Fish, shrimp, snails, and corals are all fine.

I bought this product in haste not noticing that it was for marine/salt water aquariums, I contacted the manufacturer to ask if it would be safe for fresh water tanks too. They responded yes it is and follow the directions on the label.

I'm not sure why the other reviewers are using AlgaeFix MARINE on their freshwater ponds but maybe thats why they are having issues with fish dying. I was able to rid my tank of algae in 10 doses following the directions to the letter. Please note this does not work on ALL types of Algae, if you have Bryopsis please see my other review on Kent Tech M which does work on Bryopsis.
