I have the Sonic Impact I-F3. It was great when it worked, good sound, convenience, but then the battery stopped holding a charge. No problem, just go to the website and order a replacement battery. Guess what. They don't have replacement batteries. Oh, and read this, direct from their website"SI5.COM is committed to educating our visitors. A great customer is an informed customer. To allow the most time to create quality websites we do not have any way for visitors to contact us."What the hell? If that is a case of doublespeak. Buy it if you must, but don't expect any support from Sonic Impact.

I bought one of these several years ago and have loved it. This is my second one. The sound from old school speakers is much better to me than these modern ipod boom boxes. I use the battery power at tailgates and people always come over admiring it and asking where I got it.My first one came with a power cord. I did not notice this did not come with a power cord. Take that into consideration when you're paying for this, which includes shipping and handling. You can get the power cord at Radio Shack; cost about $20.

I purchased this mini amp to drive some quite old but still good and not all that efficient B&W speakers from the 80's and the setup still sounds as good as any amplifier I have ever hooked up. I use it for our TV setup and it really is an incredible little amplifier -- hardly takes up any space, only gets barely warm. I did manage to break (not entirely, thankfully) one half of one of the speaker connectors moving it around recently so it's not super rugged but for the price, nothing I've heard or seen even comes close.

Let's not get over exited about this amp high fidelity. It is what it is and does what it does very well but high fidelity is not one of them. Don't get me wrong as this is a very good amp for the price - read on.It uses the class T amp chip but it is not the same quality with the high priced (150+) class T amps. The difference is in the discrete components used and the power supply. Heck you can even go to 300+ for one of class T amps if you are so picky. But for 34 as the Sonic Impact is sold now, you can't go wrong. I tried a few other small amps in this market segment before and at double the price and I have to return them all as the lack of sound quality was too big. One model could have even been used as a radio receiver. On the outside the Sonic Impact is well made for the price and assuming you do not fiddle with it a lot it will last you a long time. The size is small and fits in my palm. The box is pleasant to touch ad look at.The sound quality is very good for this price and size but do not expect this to even come close to a full on receiver like Yamaha RX-V2500 that I also own. It is not meant to be able to.I gave it only 4 star because of the high distortion that I get after going over half the volume knob range. To be honest I expected that to happen as the capacitors/power supply in this amp are too small to handle the dynamic range. In my application that makes no difference because I'm using it as a local amplifier in a small bathroom (9'x5' and the source is a network streaming device) and half the range is already loud, close to too loud. The other big plus in my application is that this amp consumes very little power and at full volume it is just a little warm on the top. This is ideal for having it on 24x7 and hidden in a closet. This amp answers the growing need for small inexpensive local amps for whole house streaming music systems based on computer networks - a much cheaper option than the traditional custom and very expensive whole house audio systems. It would be nice if Sonic Impact will come out with a big brother of this that double the price to 60-70 but also "doubles" the sound quality. There is nothing decent you can buy now in that market segment. The next stop is 120-150 way too much in my opinion.Depending on your application this may or may not be a good choice but for me it is excellent.P.S. this review is based on AC power. I have not tested using batteries as I'm not and not going to use it that way.

This product is great for outdoor parties and back yard get togethers and the beach of course. Plays through high efficiency speakers very well, low efficiency not as good. Drains batteries very quickly. You need "Energizers" re-chargeables don't hold up.

You can run your speakers in the woods if you put batteries in it. Otherwise you have to buy the adapter for 20 separately

Bought mine for $20 a couple of years ago. I made a power adapter that runs into my PC so the unit turns on and off with my PC and am using good quality bookshelf speakers attached to a shelf. Works great, and I like that I can manually control my PC's volume. You can now get the newer model (Dayton DTA-1 Class T Digital Amplifier) for $40 from www.partsexpress.com

At 20 this was a great amp. At the current list price of 88 [It's amazing how much the price of this unit keeps wandering around], it's not reasonable. The connectors are cheap, the volume control is imprecise and last I checked, it only works with a SPECIFIC power supply that Sonic Impact alone will sell you, or batteries. (They designed it to fail to work with standard adapters, which is unforgivable. The chip they use inside is happy with anyone's high current 12v power supply.)The Tripath ("class T") chip amp they use is a nice little device that does a surprisingly good job of producing 5-6W of very clear sound. If you try to make the amp deliver 15W, the sound quality becomes awful. (When they use these chips in high end TVs, they limit the output to 10W). And even at this amp's best, it does NOT rival high end gear. It's good. But if you have good speakers and listen to uncompressed music in a quiet room, you can hear this amp's limitations. It does a fine job for anyone but the fussy. It's great for computer setups or small room music systems.Given what's inside the box, though, spending over 30 for one is a joke. I've rated it low because of the high price, flimsy construction and overblown promises. If you like building things, look for kits based on the TA2026 chip. One other negative - I had one of these blow out during a power failure. I can only guess it took a power surge when the power came back, and did not survive. It might be better to keep them on batteries.I now own a Dayton DTA-1, and it's the exact same thing in a black shell.

This amp and a 15 regulated power supply replaced a Hafler DH-220 that was drawing 120 watts at idle and 180 watts in operation. This set up will eventually pay for itself in power savings. As a bonus, it sounds as good or better in my computer audio system. Initially, the amp was really bright and harsh, but I let it run with an input signal for 72 hours and the sound improved significantly. I wasn't really a believer in "break-in" for solid-state electronics, but the sound did improve over time. I have a separate high end system, so it's not just becoming accustomed to the T-Amp. The T-Amp and power supply combination isn't especially attractive, but it fit in with the rest of my hardware environment. I see that there is a version two T-Amp with power supply close to the price I paid for the amp and separate power supply.
