Verify the height of the OPENING, not the overall height, before ordering. The bark is rather thick.The Small and Medium are pretty small. They probably are okay for small frogs, lizards, and geckos, but that's about it.The minimum size for even a juvenile tortoise is a Large. The Large's opening is 2 1/2" high.Depending on tortoise breed, consider purchasing XL or Giant for continued usage into full growth and adulthood.It's hollow ceramic with a hole at the bottom on each side. Because of the holes, air isn't pocketed and trapped in the shell, so this should be submersible when filled with water as long as it's COMPLETELY UNDERWATER. If only partially underwater, it may be buoyant because you're unable to displace enough air inside with water.

The description states special resin hideout, but is ceramic and highly breakable. So not happy as looking for something not that breakable. When it arrived, discovered it is ceramic and the tag states NEW! Now made of Earth Friendly Ceramic. If I had known ceramic I wouldn't have purchased as we do lots of cleanings each week with our education animals. I am not a happy customer.
