Excellent little cutter. I bought this specifically for the heart cutout. They helped me make a great gift with some homemade wild picked black raspberry jam. The pink ones are flavored with rose tea!

I’ll probably get around to using the other shapes too. I envision the different shapes could be used to help communicate different flavors of fillings or doughs.

The large cutter has a non removable (to my knowledge) plunger that helps you release the cookie once you stamp it. Since the edges are scalloped it creates quite a larger perimeter with more nooks and crannies than a simple circle which makes it more likely to stick, especially on softer/not chilled doughs. I used a shortbread type dough for the cookies here, and I used some more flour so it was on the drier side, that helped. Rolling the dough thicker would help too, maybe 1/8”+

You switch out the middles by twisting them into the plunger. You can leave it off entirely for a full cookie. I didn’t use a cutout for the bottoms of these sandwiches. The only thing is, it’s ever so slightly off center. Barley perceptible. That’s fine by me though. The little middle cutouts are not released by the plunger, so I used a chopstick to gently poke them out.

The plastic plunger I was not able to remove. I didn’t want to try too hard because I didn’t want to break it, I don’t think it’s supposed to come apart though. So this is probably better suited for doughs that are on the dry side and not so sweet. Linzer shortbread fits that bill so I think it’s okay. I just wiped it off the excess flour buttery residue with a slightly damp towel before wiping it dry to put away. It seems plenty sturdy and I don’t think it’ll rust or tarnish as long as you clean it every time.

Because the plunger is there, this limits the maximum height of dough you can use these on, wouldn’t work on thicker doughs than maybe 1/4”, so keep that in mind.

Overall I like this cutter a lot, it’s easy to use, and really it’s 8 cutters because of the baby cookies you can make. The baby cookies are so fun to make, if a little tedious because you have to poke out each of them. Once you use the plunger you don’t want to go back haha. But nonetheless a great basic baking tool to have that’s nice and simple and can let the flavor of your doughs and fillings shine by being simple and cute looking.

I do wish it could have come with a little box or bag to store it in, with all the little cutters loose it would have been nice for there too be something to keep it all together. That’s my only improvement. Oh and make sure all the shapes are centered. But really it’s not too bad, you look at the pictures and see for yourself. I had made over a hundred at this point so I really got used for how off they looked at the time. Bit I will be using for more of my cookie gifts very soon!

Great product if you've earned a PhD at a bakery. Maybe it's just me. . . Either earn that degree or have the patience of an Old Testament saint when using. The recipes say "chilled" dough. Yes, chill it. Chill it well. Just let it chill and sit down for a while. If you rush into it and screw up all your cookies and put the whole kit in a box bound for the thrift store, you're more like me than you thought.

Great product for the money, but SO MUCH EASIER to go to the grocery store and but some freakin' cookies.

So easy to use, I felt like a Keebler Elf and the missus did to I think because she immediately took over the operation of cutting out cookies. I think friends and neighbors are gonna be impressed when they get a tin of Christmas cookies.
