I am an avid backyard birder, which is to say that I have multiple grain feeders, multiple hummingbird feeders, and a large bird bath.The key feature of my birdbath is to always have a floating solar-powered fountain so that the water gets some movement/circulation and aeration.I've been doing this for many years so I've gone through many of these floating solar-powered fountain. And while they tend to all be very similar in appearance, performance, and “life expectancy,” this specific fountain has distinguished itself with a very clever feature.While all of this type of fountain have some kind of grill to prevent stuff from getting drawn into the pump, and they are all removable so that you can clean them, this one has an outstanding extra. It has a removable large-pore filter between the grill and the pump aperture! And it's configured in such a way that even if the outer grill is clogged then water can still get to the filter then into the pump.This single feature significantly improves the overall performance of the device. It would not be an exaggeration to say that this is a quantum leap over every other device of this type that I've ever had.PRO TIP: The fatal flaw of all of these floating solar-powered fountains is that the solar plate itself is not sealed against water intrusion. The solar-plates are generally mounted on a thin fiberglass plate and there's some kind of protective top coating or plate over the solar-panels, but in my experience the water will always intrude and eventually destroy the device.So what I do to extend the service life of my devices is to apply a persistent durable waterproof sealant all along the upper edge of the device from the edge of the top cover, through the solar-panel mount, and even a bit onto the upper edge of the flotation device. Be thorough. Water intrusion will kill your device long before it “wears out” or the electronics fail.

I've wanted a small fountain for a long time, and to add it to our bird bath - perfect. The solar battery seems to be holding up well. The only problem we have is when the deer or squirrels come to inspect, and that's not such a bad thing. This is totally cool.

I bought this for my bird baths. I ended up using industrial glue to attach it to the bottom of the bird bath bowl because it was floating around and all the water would spray out leaving the bird bath dry in a matter of minutes. It definitely shouldn't float. Beyond that, it does work well in full sun to circulate the water and the birds love it. The last ones I bought lasted a year and a half, so I would be happy if these have the same life span. Overall, I am satisfied with this product.
