Somehow a nearly impossible to get to valve cover bolt broke of in my motor's head. It's a V6 one bank is nearly vertical the other is canted way back against the firewall the broken bolt was on the head's firewall side, zero working space. ...and to make things interesting, it's a high strength bolt. A right angle dremel tool adapter a carbide bit managed to drill a hole in it, but it would not budge for the easy-out.nbsp; Dremel 4200 Variable Speed High Rotary Tool w/ EZ Change (Certified Refurbished) nbsp; Dremel 575 Right Angle Attachment for Rotary Tool nbsp; EnPointtrade; Premium Carbide Tip Metal Drill Bit 1/834; 3.175mm Shank 2.5mm Cutter Dia CNC Metal Engraving Boring Bit Amber Beeswax Hand Drilling Router Bit for Copper Steel Mold Plastics PCB SMT nbsp;A Dremel tungsten carbide cutternbsp; Dremel 9901 Tungsten Carbide Cutter nbsp;took care of the bolt remnants this Helicoil repair kit created new threads. After the disasters that preceded this kit, I thought I was doomed to a Joe Btfsplk moment.nbsp; Li'l Abner: The Complete Dailies and Color Sundays, Vol. 4: 1941-1942 nbsp;This kit worked! My car isn't going to the crusher over one broken bolt! The included tap is tapered it would be nice if they included two taps, a tapered a bottoming, but my dremel toolnbsp; Dremel EZ406-02 1 1/2-Inch EZ Lock Rotary Tool Cut-Off Wheel and Mandrel Metal Cutting Starter Kit nbsp;had no problem shortening the tapered tap into a bottoming. All 12 included inserts measured 5.8mm long. I couldn't find any info on this kit just went with Helicoil's reputation. Attached are pictures of the instructions contents that would have been very helpful in in the decision making process...

It is really a genius solution and an awesome product. It saves me a lot of trouble to replace the cylinder head valve cover. It only comes with the basic install tool without any wrench. I have to find proper size handle wrenches to drive the tap bit and coil installation tool. By the way, VW aluminum valve cover is super fragile and has to be very very careful. When I replaced the PCV system, I stripped two screw holes even though I followed the exact torque spec on VW repairing manual.

I used it to repair an aluminum bicycle seat stay on a full suspension mountain bike. The aluminum I had to thread was kind of thin in thickness and I had to shorten the length of the helicoil so it would not extend past the through hole. I used nippers to shorten it to length. Also, I had so little room to work with I had to use a 1/4 drive ratchet for a tap handle. However, the repair was incredibly easy and a perfect fit. Threading the bolt into the helicoil felt way way more secure than threading it into the original aluminum threads. Very happy with the repair and ease of use. Factory should have used helicoils or threaded inserts in the first place.
