I don't have a gas burner so an electric medicine pot is my only option. I purchased the one gallon size (3.8 L) because the herbal bags my doctor prepares are probably too large for a smaller cooker. The larger size also makes it easy to fit your hand inside to clean.For safety, the pot comes with a 1 foot cord. In the U.S., it is a standard 3-prong cord like you might have on your computer. On any appliance which draws 500 watts of power or more, you should not use a long cord. I once dropped the pot onto the counter while cleaning and nothing broke or cracked, the ceramic post is very sturdy (and heavy when full). When the brew is complete I pour the hot decoction into a tempered glass teapot with a standard stainless steel tea basket which strains out the perfect amount of tea concentration.The only negatives are that there is no on/off switch (you have to use the power cord) and if your decoction contains a lot of roots or bark like mine, the materials do not circulate well around the stainless steel heating surface, so I have to stir the decoction periodically. Wear a glove when stirring so you don't burn your skin from the rising heat. I only allow the tea to boil for 30 minutes per the prescription and I have never seen the light switch over to warm. But I am very pleased with the product overall and it is a great medicine cooker.

I like the product is convenient compared to a traditional one , but it is pretty thin and very easy to be broken. I had only used it for 4 times, and tried to wash it generally. it still got a big cracker after a very subtle pump at the sink edge. Now the pot is leaking and useless...
