I purchased this book as a refresher to canoeing opportunities here in Vermont. While I found the actual descriptions of access to the bodies of water well described and informative, I was completely turned off by the continual political comments. While I am not a power watercraft user I found the reference to those who are as “consumptive users” very condescending. Throughout the book there are comments such as this expressing disdain for environmental occurrences that do not meet with the authors approval. This environmental “holier than thou” attitude has permeated Vermont over the last twenty years and has no place in outdoor recreation.

I gave this to my son who loves kayaking. He has used it and says it is an excellent guide to the best places to kayak. Clear directions and a handy size. He was very pleased.

It's just quick snapshots of places to paddle. No detailed descriptions. I like to know the size, length, and time to paddle, but what I also wanted this book to provide was information about places to take breaks, camp, swim, etc.

I was looking for a book that would give me info on great places to paddle in the white mountains with my kids. This was a terrific guide and fit the bill exactly. It includes info about fees you may have to pay for parking, good directions, and the map was good. only criticism: One of the places we went to --Long Pond in Benton, NH--it would have been helpful to note that the road leading up to the boat launch is steep and unpaved, and there didn't seem to be any hiking trails despite that being indicated in the book.
