Some koi have trouble eating floating food. This helped a few of my koi whose mouths are shaped differently and are bottom feeders.

This is the only sinking food that I have purchased that the majority sinks. The fish like it. I mix sinking with floating as I have a couple of Koi that are real pigs, and they steal the floating food from the other Koi.

I just added two smaller koi. One was very shy for the longest time and would not feed with the bigger koi. I got this sinking food because it was smaller than the floating food that I usually feed my fish and I doubt that the smaller fish would be able to it it. Plus, since it sinks I could put it so it would sink right by its hiding place so it would come and eat. The other fish eventually caught on and would race over to eat this food instead of their regular food so I have to put it in different places. Now the smaller fish are used to their environment and have joined the others to feed. But I'm still feeding them this food to encourage growth. I'm sure it's working as I can't believe how fast they've grown. And the colors of all fish also seem to be enhanced. Good product but a bit pricey. But you pay for quality.
