Mission: Mentors International is an international nonprofit empowering the world’s poor to grow in self-reliance through personal and business mentoring and access to financial services. Over 90% of the people we serve are women with little to no access to education and credit. By giving entrepreneurs in developing countries the opportunity to receive training and access to small loans, they can begin to grow their businesses, provide for their families, and create jobs for others. Mentors International has impacted over 4.5 million people since 1990.Headquartered in Draper, Utah, Mentors International has operations in Asia, Latin America, and Africa.

Results: Over 4.5 Million people impacted since 1990.98% re-payment rate. During 2018, the entrepreneurs we served were able to increase their incomes on average by 52%. 28,391 Families impacted during in 2018.60,499 mentoring sessions held in 2018.20,698 training session held in 2018.3,961 jobs created in 2018.14,175 loans disbursed during 2018.

Target demographics: The poor in developing countries are trapped. They lack education, good nutrition, and a safe place to raise their families. They cope with harsh social, economic, and environmental hardships. Poverty problems are extensive and complex. Inherited hunger, chronic malnourishment, and stunted growth have negative long-term effects on a child’s working capacity and intellectual performance. These serious effects reach far into adulthood. Such nutritional problems are prevalent in developing countries. Illness, disease, ignorance, abuse, and degrading customs are prevalent, too. Because there is no formal economy, a majority of the populations in developing countries can’t find work. They must fend for themselves and their families without the resources they need to succeed.

Direct beneficiaries per year: over 300,000 people

Geographic areas served: Philippines, Ghana, Nepal, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, and the Dominican Republic

Programs: At Mentors International, we know that people trapped in poverty aren’t looking for a handout. They want to work and provide the best for their families. They just need a hand up to get them started on their journey. Mentors International provides a high degree of ongoing, personalized training and mentoring. The knowledge and encouragement our clients receive are vital to their success as they build businesses and become self-reliant.
