Sharpens well. My only complaint is that the clamp used to keep the knife in place causes surface damage as the knife slides around during sharpening. This will happen no matter how tight you make the screw. Tough lesson to learn on a $260 Zero Tolerance knife!

After watching a couple of videos and practice this system is great. Practice is key!! Highly recommend purchasing the stand.

I bought this item after watching many videos on YouTube. What convinced me was when some really good professional knife sharpeners tested it and gave it good reviews. I also bought the metal stand that holds the knife clamp because all of the videos said it's kind of clunky to use without the stand, the Lansky leather strop and an extra coarse stone because my kitchen knives were in such bad shape. Another thing I learned from watching experienced knife sharpeners online was that all these years of me thinking I knew how to sharpen a knife I was totally wrong, I had no idea what I was doing. So I used this system for the first time tonight on two of my wife's kitchen knives that hadn't been correctly sharpened in goodness knows how long. Probably since they left the factory to be honest. I followed the pro's recommendations from the videos I watched and went to work! 45 minutes later the first knife that I did would shave hair and was scary sharp. It took so long because I had to work some big nicks out of the blade. Second knife wasn't in quite so bad shape and only took me 35 minutes and it was shaving hair. My left arm looks kinda strange right now with some bald spots on it. Then I did a couple of my pocket knives that only needed touched up and they took less than 10 minutes each. Like I said earlier, I didn't know how to correctly sharpen a knife and with this system I was able to make 4 knives scary sharp. For the price I don't see how a person can go wrong. If your knives don't get super sharp you must be doing something wrong. So glad I bought this system. No more dull knives in our house and it costs a lot less than a new knife set.

Jig was tapped all the way for adjustment screw to make knife tight so I sent it back but the system is awesome for sharpening a consistent angle.

First time using it takes some getting use to. I also purchased the C clamp support and the leather stropping bar, the first sharpening takes a while to get your angle, but after that it’s quick and my knifes are extremely sharp

It takes a little work, a lot of experimentation and patience, patience patience. It is not the most accurate system, though it wouldn't take much on Lansky's part to improve it. First the clamp had a very hard time holding any blade securely. The small red knob is every hard to tighten, but even when you get it so tight that you are afraid that the threads will strip, the knife can easily pop out. It is virtually impossible to use on hand forged knives where the spine of the knife may be curved and of unequal thickness. Second, the metal guide rods are too thin and flex if you apply pressure. Third the slots that the guide rod fit in set the angle of the bevel are too wide for the guide rods so the guide rods slop around.

It would have been easy to design a knurled knob to replace the silly red one, and make the guide rods thick enough for the bevel angle slots.

I found it virtually unusable until I made a stand to mount it on, which is easily done with some dowel and a scrap to 3/4" plywood.

Given that this system is 10th the cost of a really good one, I can't say it's worthless. I was able to restore the bevel on a bunch of kitchen knives, old pocket knives and some old fixed blade hunting knives. It can be forced to work, but you have to impose your will upon it.

bought a set for myself, and 4 more as stocking stuffers for my son and sons-in-laws! Question is, should I also buy first aid kits as stocking stuffers for my daughters and daughter-in-law?

A little disappointed, but does an adequate job. Doesn't pass the paper cut test with flying colors. Followed the instructions to the tee. I guess the performance is proportional to the price.

Excellent sharpening system. Lets you hone your blade at a perfect consistent angle throughout the sharpening process. It's much slower than a sanding belt, and it takes a little technique, but you get your knives super sharp without grinding too much metal off. Sometimes it takes a long time to get your blade right, so you kind of have to love your knives. Once you grind the blade to the correct angle, sharpening it in the future is much easier. The coarse hone is a little too fine sometimes, so I recommend getting an extra coarse one. I had poor results with the serrated sharpener, so maybe get a kit with an extra coarse instead.

Great sharpener. Does a good job and is easy to use once you get the hang of it, but there is a bit of a learning curve. My only issue is the plastic storage box. Lansky made a good product, then put it in the worst, cheapest, most poorly-made storage box on the planet. They must have sent malnourished interns to the four corners of the earth to find this worthless scrap of cheap malformed plastic. It won't even close because of how poorly molded it is. A wad of wet toilet paper would have been more effective. I'm sure I can find something better in the dumpster behind the dollar store. Even the throw-away plastic containers from our local Chinese take-out are better made and more durable than this thing. It would have been a five-star review if the storage box was useful.

Truthfully, I rather disappoint with this. I did a lot of research and thought this would be a good set to start as I'm just getting into knives and learning. First, the case it comes in is absolute crap, it won't even close and latch, I guess I get to rubber band it to keep all the contents from falling out when I move it. Second, this is not a good system for smaller knives, I started with a Mora companion with a scandi grind. The stones kept actually hitting the clamp when trying to sharpen at the 17 degree angle of this knife, and when I flipped it over to get the other side, it wouldn't even sharpen in that setting because the "red" screw was in the way (not even sure what that is for). I did not want to keep having to unclamp the knife just to do the other side. I would chose a different system, and will be, in the future. I'll keep it to use on larger knives, but like I said, I'm rather disappointed.
