A classic game of cards has been around for over 100 years, since Parker Brothers first introduced in 1905. As the story goes, it was a Southern regional game and replaced poker games in the bible belt for religious people. The rules are included in the nice storage box. The rules allow to set up a game for 2, 3, 5 or 6 players or for 2 teams of 2 players each. the 56 cards in 4 color schemes are really nice, themed to the game. The goal is to capture as many point cards as you can. The 2 black bird cards as wild cards. The game is related to many other popular games where you can "bid", "trump" and "Trick-take", it has bits from Hearts, Pinochle, Spades, Whist and Bridge, but easier to learn than Bridge. A very addictive game that can be played for hours and hours. Great for rainy days and cabins.

Rook is a good game for your brain. We play twice a week at the Senior Center so they don't last too long.

My wife and I picked this up at the store and were severely disappointed. Just a remake of an already established game. Save yourself some time and money and go look up the rules for Euchre, get a deck of regular playing cards from the junk drawer or dollar store and enjoy the same game for almost nothing.

For those wanting to purchase the "old" style Rook cards - Try Deluxe Rook by Winning Moves.

When I was a little girl I stood along beside the table and watched the adults play. This was how I learned how to play the game. I have now been playing rook for about eight years and loved the style of cards shown above (90's style). Unfortunately, they have changed the style of the cards on us and I would like to purchase the 90's style. If any come availible to purchase please be sure to email me and inform me of this so that I can buy some. I really dislike the new style of cards and all of my friends and family agree with me!

The older version of Rook cards had rich, warm colors and easily discernable numbers. They were also a heavier stock card and silky smooth in texture. The newer cards are unattractive and less serviceable and actually take away from the enjoyment of the game. What a shame! Rook deserves a card worthy of its rich heritage.

I have played Rook since I was a child and I've bought many decks of Rook cards over the years. I love the game of Rook but I am very disappointed in the quality of the cards in this Rook deck. I hadn't bought a new deck since the early 1990's, but a few months ago, I realized that it was time for a new deck. Since I bought the new deck, everyone that I've played the game with recently has remarked on the poorer quality of the cards. We greatly miss the Rook cards that were sold several years ago. I don't understand why Parker Brothers felt that it was necessary to change the way the cards were made. In my opinion, it was a very poor decision on their part.

Rook has always been a game that my whole family has always enjoyed playing. I'm 56 years old and my mother is now going to be 90 come December 6, 2002. Yes, she still enjoys playing "Rook" (my mother belonged to a "Rook Club" in her community for over 50 years). I bought the new "Rook" cards not knowing the cards had changed even though the box was new. When I opened it, I was very disappointed because I knew my mother would have a hard time seeing the numbers. Luckily enough, when I am at a store (Walmart, Kmart, Shopko, Target & etc.) and I see that they have a good price (under $5); I will purchase a couple of them because they make great gifts to family members (did I mention that my mom had 10 children... dad did help but he past away in 2000), so I do have a few decks of the older version of "Rook". There is not a person in the family that like the new version of "Rook". Please e-mail me back A.S.A.P. and let me know how I can get some more decks of the old version of "Rook". I know that I am not alone in my thinking on this matter. You could bring it back and call it the "Classic Rook" and still have the newer version out there too and then we could have a chose. OK? PLEASE!!!\r Thank you so much for the game of "ROOK".
