The stems are filled with tiny white-silver balls that sparkle when the light shines on them. They have weight to them which makes them sturdy. I did find that my 8 (that's the best height) tapered candles were too small for the candle well and I had to buy wax candle adapters to fill the well so the candles would stand up straight. A small inconvenience for such elegant candle sticks. I have seen very similar candle sticks for $85.00 and $110.00 so I consider these candle sticks a good value. The candlesticks measure10, 7.5 5.
