Very loud. The volume ranges from very loud to painful. Unlike some whistles, a gentle puff does not get you a subdued whistle, so it may not be good in some applications like refereeing sports or any kind of use indoors. However, it's perfect if what you need is to be heard at long distances, like a search and rescue scenario.

Good, but I will continue to look for something that really pipes for camping situations where you are in dense woods and near running water to locate buddies / emergency situation.

This is probably one of the LOUDEST whistles I have ever used. My ears were ringing after a particularly powerful blast. One star off for crappy ring that started rusting after 1 day on the water.
