Natural skin head drums sound better, but are sensitive to humidity. This drum comes with a simple Allen wrench to tighten or loosen the head depending on where you are. The frame is solid and the rawhide cross backing is easy to hold. The beater is nice too, good sound, lots of sounds you can get out of this drum. I must say it took me a while to learn its voice. Worth the trouble! Can use for music, trance, or just ambience equally well.

You have to tighten up the screws to make it tight before you use it. Otherwise, it's a great sound! Love it.

The thinness of the hide. Ripping if it get cold an when painting. I wouldn't use this as a working drum only for show. Love the design of the hoop though

When the drum arrives the head is not taunt, so it was never stretched properly. So now I have to try to fix the drum head.

Never had a frame drum before. It came in good order and since I have no experience I've been tightening up the head gradually, just enough each time to keep the sound even all the way around. I'll worry about the exact pitch a bit later. Learned how to do that on Youtube, as well as the main sounds, Dum, Tek, Key, Paw, Seki (or however they're spelled). I'm using this for medieval dance music. So far so good and am very happy with it.

A great price for a tunable frame drum. Head is glued inadequately to frame, however, to tighten to desired pitch.
