It may be years before I know how well this worked, but after fighting to get the old one out, this new one went in easily. The old one had been in there for over 16 years, and had totally disintegrated, leaving a pile of sand and dirt in the bottom of the tank, clogging the drain valve, making the tank hard to drain. And it was obviously no longer doing it job as a sacrificial anode. My takeaway from this is that I (you) should probably change these out every 5-7 years!

It's tough to get the old one out but since this rod is foldable it's easy to re-insert into the tank. Removing the plastic insert to insert the required Bradford White HEAT TRAP-OUTLET PUSH-IN SINGLE DISC (WHITE) / for ANODE ROD was the hardest part of the install.

This clearly works. I have a salt-based water softener and try to replace the anodes annually. Time got away from me and this is the result. The previous one was replaced on 12/30/20, making this one just over 2 years old. I'm not sure if it was the same exact one so I'm interested to see what this exact one looks like after one year. It looks slim to me, so I gave it 4 stars rather than 5, thinking perhaps if it was a little larger it would have lasted longer.

Replaced a solid magnesium rod that I always had to cut shorter just to install in a tight space. This was easy to install and went in exactly as expected.

This was easy to install, time will tell if it is doing the job. We have a water softener and it has destroyed 4 water heaters in 26 years. I didn't know about these anodes, so this is my first experience with them. I installed this 3 years after the last water heater was installed, hopefully I didn't wait too long. I'll install another anode every 2 years from now on. It's been in a few months now, and no weird sulfur smell, leaks, etc. I can't comment on removing it but suspect I won't have any problems. Like I said, so far so good.

Worked great in my 40 gal Bradford White. Didn't realize the original had 3 inch recessed until I took it out. Pipe wrench on the treads still worked fine. Don't go any less than the 3 inch extension for that model water heater.

Thanks to YOU TUBE, I used a ratchet strap with a wood strip to brace the unit. Using a large pipe wrench and my leg, I loosened the anode pipe. It took several tries but broke free on the third pull. Watch the videos on You Tube, especially the one's about stuck pipes.
