This handy-sized notebook is sturdy with a hard durable cover and strong binding that puts up with repeated use. The pages are waterproof, making this notebook great for use in the garden, barn, or anywhere that is outdoors, muddy, dirty or damp. You can write in dry conditions with a pen, marker or pencil. For wet conditions, you can write with a pencil or a special pen designed for this type of paper. Even if the pages get, previously written work does not get smudged or damaged! You just wipe off the water it beads on the page and does not absorb in. If you take notes while planting and gardening, this is such a helpful product! I also use it for note-taking at the barn, which is another area where traditional paper does not hold up well! This notebook would also work well for nature sketching/journaling. Great product!!

Love this little book. I had thought about giving it to my son who travels frequently around the globe and hikes wherever he goes. But, it's pretty small and he's more interested in documenting his trips with pictures. I've always looked for just the right notebook for my bag - something i can carry if I'm using a backpack, briefcase, small handbag or bigger one. This is perfect for a number of reasons. I tend to hold all kinds of stuff in my bag - juices and water for kids, snacks, pens, etc. Most small notebooks get ruined because the pages and covers bend and get ruined by drops of liquid. This is great - all weather cover and paper that can be written on when wet is perfect for me. While i realize this is not the intended use or audience for the book, it's really helpful to me as I'm often on a conference call while on the go and need to take notes and keep them legible.

Fundamentally, one asks a single question about a product: Does it meet its purpose? The 'Rite in the Rain' notebook stands out because of its practicality. It's more durable, and more useful in more environments, than a conventional notebook. For field work or travel this is a terrific product. It has the feel of being designed by someone who personally recognized the need for it. The cover is solid, hard. The internal pages are resistant to liquids. The layout of the model I'm using has a good layout, with a useful contents section and numbered pages.

I love these notebooks for taking field notes in any weather. They are sized to fit in a hip pocket, and the hard cover makes it easy to write while holding the notebook in one's hand. My one regret is that Rite in the Rain no longer seems to offer a version with unperforated pages. Sure, some people will like the perforations because it makes it easier to remove a page. But I can't be the only one who, when paying up for a durable binding to make sure the pages stay in, would rather not have anything done to help them come out.

This is a handy notebook suitable for field notes and travel. It's best used with pencils or special pens. It is also advertised for using crayons or oil paints. I like touring historic sites and gardens, and I sometimes take notes for my photos or my blog. Weather is not a problem with this book. The water resistant paper was developed a century ago on the rainy Pacific Northwest. The notebook is slightly heavier than a regular one. It arrived in a printed cardboard sleeve that is recyclable, although the printing is hard to read due to poor contrast. There are instructions on the last page and a metric conversion chart on the page before.

Excellent hardy notebook. Coffee stains the pages a little but wipes off easy.

Very nice, durable, all weather field book. About the same size as a 4 x 6quot; note card--about 1quot; thick For women, it could slip into a jacket or coat pocket. I got one to carry in my purse as it's an ideal size and sturdiness for a small notebook (inside just pages of college-ruled paper (archival-grade that promises to hold up well to weather and storage), good for any kind of notes.) The yellow color makes it easily visible in a big satchel. I take sometimes am taking photos in the rain and appreciate the weather resistant cover and pages that weren't destroyed by the moist environment. Great little book.

I work in the oil and gas industry, this is my go to tally book, fits good in back pocket, but has wide pages to log our work. It's tough and works well in rain and snow

Great field book. As a construction manager I am constantly in the field needing to write stuff down. This book is small enough to fit in my back pocket but not too small that it is annoying to write on tiny pages. Best field notebook I've found to date.
