Based on some reviews, I thought this mat may not work for me. I'm 300 pounds, and I was concerned I'd just smoosh it when sleeping. To my surprise, this mat inflated well on it's own, it remained inflated through the two-night camping trip, and it was easy to deflate. It was comfortable. The only issue I have is that since I'm a big guy, I'd partially roll off the mat in my sleep. However, I don't fault the product for this. Instead, I fault my failed dieting. :)

I have used this item only once. The quality of this item is good at best. If I were buying again, I would shop around before buying.

Does the job. Not UN-comfortable. Too thin for a 220lb 6'-3 guy like me though. Seems durable though. Needs some help to 'auto-inflate.

NICE to have this. I am very happy as I can add extra air to it for a firmer mat. It is lighter and easier to carry/use than all the other mats I have!

I really enjoy the extra thickness the 3" gives. It not only keeps you well protected from the chill that comes from the ground, it keeps you from feeling the ground at all, thereby allowing a more comfortable sleep. What you have to give up for the 3" thickness is a very compact roll, so this mattress is not for trail use where you would be breaking camp each day and heading off to a new destination, but for a rather static camp where you set up once and stay for a while. Due to the thickness, it takes a bit longer to deflate and roll up at tne end of camp. It works well both on the ground and on a cot. For trail use I have a 1" thick pad again, self-inflating. For comfort I give it a full rating.

Compared to sleeping without a mattress pad, this is a must. However, compared to other backpacking sleeping pads, this is a very durable option, the trade off being weight. I have used pads from Therm-A-Rest, to non brand, and foam to non self inflating. This is the widest, but also the heaviest pad I have used. This is a comfortable pad for camping, or a short hike, but not recommended for longer backpacking trips.

I bought this mattress to go camping with my boyfriend. We haven't made it camping yet, but the mattress has come in handy when company stays over. So far, no complaints or grunting noises when people get up. It's wide enough so I don't feel like I am going to fall off if I turn over and comfortable enough to actually sleep.

Self Inflating means that when you release the mat from its rolled up condition, the air pressure will begin to equalize inside the foam and the mat will 'appear' to be self inflating as it slowly unrolls. Now that I've gotten that out of the way - let me tell you that this is WAY better than sleeping directly on the floor of the tent - which I have done several times and no way will I ever be without a mat again. It also adds several degrees of warmth much needed on a chilly camp night. You will want a least a 25" width on your mat or else what's the point? One thing you should be warned about however - once I unrolled the mat I could not for the life of me get it rolled back up and secured with the straps - even though I let all the slack out of the straps - that is how tightly they come rolled from the factory. So now I have to store them folded in half in the spare room or closet. If you were thinking of buying just a foam mat ( without the nylon cover ) don't do it. The heavy nylon covers are there to add stability to the foam, and without it you will not get as much support.
