This is a great tool. It allowed us to clear plugged fitting with not too much effort without replacing the fitting. It is difficult to use in very tight areas or where the fitting is a bit harder reach. Saved much time and money.

Works well but in tight places i had to take the fitting off and put it in a vice and use this tool. But it does clean it out.

Worked like a champ! Be sure to wear eye protection. I got a fine spray of penetrating oil to the face. This actually happened after the hammering was done. The pressure built up in the boot when I first added grease and forced the penetrating oil to spray out in a very fine stream. The only downside was removing the tool from the grease fitting after hammering. Was tough to remove. I followed the instructions and loosened the coupler but that did not help. I was finally able to pry off. Loosening the coupler sort of breaks the sealant on the threads so some oil then leaks out. But it is insignificant and does not appear to degrade the tool performance. One thing that concerns me is mixing this penetrating oil and lube. This tool injects penetrating oil in the joint. The penetrating oil breaks down the hardened lube which is then forced out of the boot (in my case). When I began to add grease, penetrating oil came out of the boot. As I continued to add grease, eventually the old grease began to come out. Then I stopped. Now that I think about, did this process really get all of the penetrating oil out of the joint? Later, I tested a mixture of lubricating grease and penetrating oil. The grease dissolved to basically nothing. I went back and added more grease to the joint to see what came out - even though I am not in love with pumping grease out of a joint boot. The grease that came out was not degraded in any way.

I ordered this item figuring if it didn't work I could return it. First I read the reviews on the item, and they were very helpful. We had a mini excavator in our fleet that had a pin the would not take grease no matter what we did. I had people remove the zerk and replace. they tried drilling. They tried heating it hoping it would loosen up the stuck grease. So I bought this as a last resort figuring if it didn't work, I would return it. First I read the instructions and used Marvel Mystery oil. They said penetrating, But had lots of marvel mystery oil in the truck as we use it for about for about everything. I took a few minutes to really figure it out, as to bleed the air out of it. Seems like once I bled the air, I had about a half cylinder to work with. I grabbed my 2 pound hammer, and started tapping. It was leaking at some fittings as I had not tightened them enough when I screwed the base on. Back to work. I started tapping. It was messy as the pressure is very high when you tap, and if the zerk is plugged, it has to go somewhere, so it seeped and threw a little oil out of the plunger. Now I had read where people said it took fifteen minutes or a little longer on a really bad fitting. After about 10 minutes or so, I could see a little bit of seepage of oil coming out of the bushing. I kept at it for about another 5 minutes. Noticed it looked lie a little more oil seeping out of the fitting. It was noticeably easier to tap on the plunger. So I grabbed my pneumatic grease gun, thinking I would still need more work, but hoping for the best. I was absolutely surprised when I seen grease come out of the pin ( bushing). I think the people who give this poor reviews need it can be messy, as the excess pressure needs to go somewhere. Second, keep at it. The pin I did had been froze for a year. I would say on a bad pin 15 to 20 minutes is not unusual. On stuck or plugged king pins, only takes one or two times as we grease regularly. Same with u joints. 5 stars from us, and especially all of the people who tried to free it.

Worked like a charm to free up the old grease on the 13 year old 5th wheel we just purchased.
