Mission: DACOR is an organization of foreign affairs professionals. DACOR fosters service, learning and community among those who have dedicated their lifework to the foreign affairs of the United States through the Foreign Service and other international engagement. The DACOR Bacon House Foundation promotes a public understanding of international affairs and diplomacy through scholarships, lectures, publications, and conferences, and a museum, and preserves the historic DACOR Bacon House, an architectural treasure, as a living testament to America‘s diplomatic heritage and a center for educational and cultural activities.
Results: DACOR has been a private organization for foreign affairs professionals since 1952.DACOR fosters frank dialog about current foreign policy matters in the trusted environment of the DACOR Bacon House. Within this stunning historic mansion, DACOR provides networking opportunities to advance the professional and social needs of members. Through a range of programs, DACOR sustains and supports community amongst those who have dedicated their lives to Foreign Service through governmental and non-governmental work, research and academia, trade and development, and communications and media. DACOR’s philanthropic arm is the DACOR Bacon House Foundation, which serves as the steward of historic mansion located at 1801 F Street, NW. Built in 1825 just two blocks from the White House, the 24-room home has served as an intellectual salon for our nation’s leaders since its earliest days. In addition, the Foundation operates a museum that provides a window into the world of diplomacy for the general public and annually awards $250,000 in scholarships and fellowships to students pursuing careers in diplomacy, development and international relations. DACOR welcomes into membership professionals in the field of foreign affairs and accepts donations from those wishing to support the preservation and educational work of the Foundation. Repainted / restored woodwork in gallery and drawing roomsRemoved rust and re-painted iron patio furnitureRestored rotting kitchen bridge beams griding the wrought iron balustrade Made $40,000 in temporary elevator repairs to keep operationalRestored rotting wood doors to patio at top of iron stairs Restored 14 historic wooden shutters on all floors of the HousePurchased a rolling iron dolly for the Rubinstein Steinway Piano (scheduled for faux painting) so we can safely move it around the 2nd floor without damaging its fragile legs Engaged a Genealogical Research Specialist in Enslaved persons to research the lives of those who built and later lived and worked in the house whose names have been heretofore lost to history. 60 students at University of the District of Columbia and Howard University have begun mentoring relationships with 60 members - for many of the students, it's a first-time experience that we hope will influence a bright future career in foreign or civil service. 236-page Historic Preservation Report Final Draft approved which will guide our efforts and investments for many years to come.
Target demographics: bring together Foreign Service Officers and Civil Service Professionals with an international portfolios in addition to other US Citizens with International affairs CVs to increase the public's understanding of diplomacy, and to preserve the historic DACOR Bacon House.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 60 students through mentorships, awarded $250,000 in fellowships and scholarships and completed multiple preservation projects including maintaining accessibility to the House with $40K in temporary elevator repairs

Our work takes place in the DACOR Bacon House, one of the Capital's most long-standing havens for discussion about the challenges and opportunities our nation faces and the policies our government pursues in the national interest. The DACOR community is proud to stand for the enduring principles of democracy and equality, of justice and dignity, of peace and prosperity for nations and individuals alike.
