This is a great switch but it can only operate a circuit of 20 mili-amps. If yours failed - now you know. That's the draw of about 3 LEDs on an LED light strip. Instruction specifically state - you need to use this switch to trigger a relay for power draw above 20 mA. 12v automotive relays are easy to find at an auto store and can handle high power operations. Pretty simple to connect.

Took a bit of fiddling to get position right so it would activate when liftgate was opened but it works.
