Purchased with the intention to use in our pop-up camper when nature calls in the middle of the night and the bathroom might be down a dark, scary path, or if it’ storming or raining outside.

Bucket can be repurposed/used to store things in while traveling. This is a standard, garden-variety 5-gallon bucket so you can put other camping supplies you’ll be using while on site in the bucket. Just remember to take everything out before using the bucket for its intended purpose. ?

The bucket is short, much lower than a standard toilet so you need to really squat down. This might be a challenge for someone with knee or back issues. The ups-side is that the bucket doesn’t take a lot of space, unlike some of the other fancier (and much more expensive) portable potties, and can be moved around quite easily. Since we are intending to use this ‘in case of emergency’, I wanted a solution that wouldn’t get in the way or that we’d have to manage around.

The seat ring is securely fashioned to the bucket. It will not come off when you’re on it. However, the lid itself does not securely lock or clasp and could open up easily if the bucket is being moved or tips over. You can likely come up with a solution that helps minimize this risk like putting a rock on top of the lid.

The bucket has a large sticker that says Luggable Loo on it. Likely not an issue for most people but I have pre-teens who already are not comfortable with the idea of going to the bathroom in a bucket in an exposed camper. My plan is to cover it with contact paper and be-dazzle it – to be funny, because why not!

For easy clean-up, place a bag (or multiple bags) in the bucket and secure it between the top and the seat. When you pull up camp or the bucket has been well used, take out the bag and throw it in the garbage.

To manage the smell, place kitty litter or gerbil/hamster cage filler in the bag. Some people use pine needles and leaves from outside.

Some reviewers believe this is an over-priced 5-gallon bucket. That may be true to a point. However, purchasing a bucket and then finding and purchasing a seat ($10+) that fits securely wasn’t something I wanted to risk and to pay a few extra dollars for this convenience and peace of mind was worth it.

Overall, I’m really happy with this purchase. Let’s get camping!
