It will reduce free available chlorine (FAC) at 2 parts per million (ppm) by at least 75% in up to 25,000 gallons at a flow rate of 4 gallons per minute (gpm). This cartridge is made granular activated carbon (GAC) filter media encased in polystyrene with a spun polypropylene post filter. The nitrile butadiene rubber (Buna-N) and Santoprene (TPE, thermoplastic elastomer) gaskets seal the cartridge against the housing (sold separately). The cartridge has an initial pressure drop of 5.0 pounds per square inch (psi) at a flow rate of 4 gallons per minute (gpm), and operates over a temperature range of 40 to 125 degrees F (4.4 to 51.7 degrees C). This carbon filter cartridge meets National Sanitation Foundation/American National Standards Institute (NSF/ANSI) standard 42 for quality assurance, and is used for treatment of residential and commercial drinking water.SpecificationsPost filter 20 micronsInitial pressure drop at 4 gpm 5.0 psiChlorine reduction capacity 25,000 gallons at 4 gpmTemperature range 40 to 125 degrees F (4.4 to 51.7 degrees C)Maximum dimensions (H x W) 20 x 4-1/2 inches (508 x 114 mm)Materials certification NSF/ANSI standard 42Chlorine reduction capacity is the minimum total amount of water for which the free available chlorine (FAC) at a concentration of 2 ppm is reduced by at least 75%.H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.Water filters remove undesirable particles, chemicals, and microorganisms from water by means of a semipermeable barrier, adsorption, or biological processes. I accidentally purchased this blue GAC-20BB filter instead of my usual RFC-20BB whole house filter which claims to allow more pressure through. I was worried at first but given I had already opened the blue filter anyhow I figured I'd try it. I have not noticed any pressure decrease from the usual and showers are just fine. Writing this review to tell others not to worry. I'll make sure to get the RFC next time.

I ordered two filters and both arrived loosely free to move in the box. The clear wrapping on each filter was torn off of the end and the filter was exposed to contamination.

Two weeks ago I had to call off work because at 5am when I got up, I found my 3 part water filter gushing water all over my garage turned into a gym. Took 12 hours to vacuum all the water up and dry the house (water went into 3 rooms). Turns out one of the housing cracked at the top. Not the bottle that holds the filter, but the top part, the black bottle holder. Fortunately, I built a bypass so I've been on city water. Now two weeks later I finally have time to replace the broken parts and when I took the bottle off, I discovered the culprit - THIS FILTER! It cracked down the side releasing all the carbon bits, expanding the bottle and bottle holder beyond their capability. Coincidentally, I bought this same filter last year and it only made it a few months. That time it junked-up everything with carbon. I took it out and just the empty bottle. I figured it was a fluke and tried again. So now that's over 100 dollars on this absolute garbage filter!

As soon as I installed this I noticed a drastic reduction in water pressure. I had it for 2 months before I removed it. My faucets were just trickling water. When I took the filter out, it was collapsed inward. Bad design. Also the filter has a prop. 65 cancer warning.
