These are the only smoke detectors we use where I work and the only one's I wanted when it came time to purchase some for my own home. I like them for their ease of wiring and hooking in tandem, and test function

The original smoke detector stopped working properly that was installed in my home when it was built years ago. When I went to replace it, I did a fair amount of research online to determine the very best smoke detector (this is one item that I am not looking for "bargain basement" pricing. Everything that I found online indicated that the "photoelectric" style smoke detector was a much more reliable product. Although considerably more expensive than the cheap "ion" smoke detectors at WalMart, I felt this offered the most security. It is electric (120V) AND 9V back up battery, which should require less battery changes (This is mounted at the top of a 12 foot wall in our living room). From all appearances, including the brackets, it is well made, heavy duty and I believe a superior product.

I'll start off by saying I absolutely hate smoke detectors with a passion and kept mine disconnected for many years until the second generation Nest units came out (which I love and highly recommend but cost nearly $100 apiece). Unfortunately, the Nest units are not acceptable for commercial installations so I needed to find more traditional units for our two vacation rental condos in Hawaii. These seem to work very well with no 3AM alarms and are easy to identify when the battery needs changing. These units have the wiring and and electronics to connect to a central station which is unavailable in the Nest.
