Great book. I am grateful that there are so many dedicated people in our national park service. Rangers have always been iconic American heroes to me; now I know why.

Wonderfully written and narrated. A very down to earth, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and filled with much truth about the state of our National Parks, the underpaid, often overlooked, and definately overworked heroes of the National Park Service. I have listened to it twice now, and look forward to my third listen soon. I thank you Ms Lankford, for your brutally honest and entertaining look behind the scenes.

Intense book at times. Learned some things I'm not sure I ever wanted to know about physics of skydiving and the human body. But it was a great page turner and gave a great perspective on the hard work of the national park service and the obstacles they face every day keeping idiots and the unlucky alive as well as the politics and bureaucracy that hinder them.

This book opened my eyes to the difficulties faced by the rangers in our national parks. I was surprised to find it to be a page-turner, but the stories Lankford tells of hiker mishaps and search and rescue efforts kept me engaged. Highly recommended reading!

This is a re-read for me. Anything about the Grand Canyon I can't get enough of and Andy does the job. Very well written. Thanks Andy.

Very enjoyable and I have a lot more respect for the staff because they put themselves in harm's way when needed.

But, none the less palpable for someone who is clearly not a writer. Her writing is as disjointed and varied as I assume the job of being a park ranger must have been. Very hard to get through the many sections of wordiness, redundancy, and cliche. She means well, she just apparently had a terrible editor. Composition and style are like that of a sophomore college essay class assignment. But, the information is great. And, an A for writing effort!

I am planning a trip to Grand Canyon NP and reading books related to that and stumbled across this one. It was a very interesting read with perspective from the inside operations of the Ranger community. Had my attention the whole way through.
