The opaque blue sump is made of reinforced polypropylene for strength and resistance to chemicals, and the black cap is made of high-flow polypropylene (HFPP) for stiffness. The black cap has 1” female National Pipe Thread Taper (NPT) threaded input and output connections and a nitrile butadiene rubber (Buna-N) O-ring to ensure a watertight seal. A pressure relief button on the inlet side of the cap releases pressure in the housing for changing filter cartridges. The housing can be used with a 20” x 4-1/2” filter cartridge (sold separately). It has an initial pressure drop of 1 pound per square inch (psi) at a flow rate of 15 gallons per minute (gpm), a maximum operating pressure of 90 psi, and a maximum operating temperature of 100 degrees F (37.8 degrees C). This filter housing meets National Sanitation Foundation/American National Standards Institute (NSF/ANSI) standard 42 for quality assurance, and is for use in various high-flow applications, including residential drinking water filtration, food service, and irrigation, among others.SpecificationsFilter cartridge size (H x W) (sold separately) 20 x 4-1/2 inches (508 x 114 mm)Initial pressure drop at 15 gpm 1 psiMaximum temperature 100 degrees F (37.8 degrees C)Maximum pressure 90 psiMaximum dimensions (H x W) 23-3/8 x 7-1/4 inches (594 x 184 mm)Materials and structural integrity certification NSF/ANSI standard 42H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.Water filters remove undesirable particles, chemicals, and microorganisms from water by means of a semipermeable barrier, adsorption, or biological processes. Filtration systems typically consist of a series of two or more types of filters, each designed to remove different contaminants. The performance of filters is measured by the minimum particle size that is blocked, the percentage of particles or microorganisms that are removed, the downstream concentration of unwanted chemicals, the maximum flow rate, and the amount of water that can be filtered before the filter must be replaced. Filters all installed without any issues, make sure you use all the silicone that comes with each filter on the O ring so that it slightly sticks in the grove. This will enable a good seal as one filter housings initially had a minor leak and it was solved by just adding more silicone. Used 5/16 x 1 in Hex Head bolts to install the housing to the separately purchased brackets.

The housings look ok but the head on one of the units had one of the filter guides broken off. Was in the bottom of the canister when I opened it. Do not believe it will effect the performance or the filter change unless more start breaking off.

I bought 3 of these and installed the system. the first is a 5005DG filter (50 micron outer core and 5 micron inner core) the second is a single stage 1 micron and then a carbon filter. The set up was time consuming because I've never done anything like this but I figured it out. Because of the size of these filters they are able to filter so much more than the 10" this system replaced and I have no noticeable pressure drop on well water.

These "Big Blues" are well known and work great. I've got two big blues installed in series. The first has a sediment filter, and the 2nd has a carbon block filter. The only issues I've had with these is I've had several carbon filters that where too small in diameter to properly line up in the filter housing which causes water to bypass the filter. All the sediment filters I've used have lined up perfectly.
I also purchased theHousing Bracket for Big blue 10" and 20" filter housingsandPentek SW-4 Plastic Filter Wrench used on Big Blue Filter Systems. I'd suggest you do the same since it doesn't come with either. You wouldn't want to try to use these big blues without the mounting hardware as they weigh too much once they fill with water.

Our last house had a single one of these on it. After some research, I decided I wanted to do something even more. I purchased 3 of these and the mounting brackets, 4 Simmons 100 psi pressure gauges, and 3 filters (50 to 5 micron, 25 to 1 micron, and a carbon block filter). I used sharkbite fittings to attach to the incoming water line, then pvc for the rest of my build. 1 gauge to monitor the incoming pressure, and the other 3 after each filter housing. My incoming water line is 3/4", I went with 1" pvc pipe to make sure I didn't have any pressure loss while the water flows through the filter system. I also included a bypass for easy filter changes, or whatever else it might be needed for. It turned out great. I have 0 pressure loss according to all 4 gauges. If you read directions and watch some youtube videos, which I did, I didn't have a single leak in my entire system. I have never done plumbing before, but consider myself to be an advanced level DIY'er.
