This works very well for it's intended purpose, making for a smooth, finished cable passthrough where appearance is important on both sides.

As other have stated, the grommet must be cut to length for the thickness of the material it is passing through. Using the proper tools (band saw, in my case), it was easily cut to size, then a little smoothing on the belt sander and it was ready for installation. Don't cut it too short, there must be sufficient length to engage the gripping 'fingers' of the top piece. In 3/4" material, cut to about 1/2".
