I bought this to hatch quail eggs, I set 15 eggs in it. When I candled around 8 days, I was pretty sure only 14/15 eggs I had set were fertile. This incubator worked great but needed a few tweaks. Without a fan it was hard to keep the temps stable in there. So I bought a small USB fan and set it inside the incubator. That helped a lot. I had a temperature spike one day but the eggs seemed to do ok. Keeping the humidity stable was a little tricky, but I didn't use anything to measure the humidity. On hatch day, things started looking dry so I upped the humidity by adding water. I think I upped it too much because one of the babies got stuck in the egg and died. I had two more that were slow to hatch and the incubator started to get dry so I had to help them out. (mistake) They both ended up dying a couple days later. All in all, it was a good starter incubator, wasn't too expensive and got the job done. I ended up with way more quail babies than I expected, especially for a newbie. If you purchase this incubator, definitely invest in a cheap USB fan. The one I used stood up on it's own.

I actually used this incubator to make tempeh, but it worked fairly well given its price. I set it around 90 degrees, and never saw it go below 85 or above 95. The fluctuations that everyone is reporting could be due to the temperature within the house (it affects it somewhat). The other explanation is that its integrity is a hit or miss, or that it works better at different temperatures.

Ok, so incubating eggs is no easy task. I gave this bator 4 stars because well, IMO its a bit pricy and it's missing something... The automatic egg turner!!! If you don't have all day for 18 days to turn egg 3 times a day, you NEED an egg turner!!! I find it kind of hard to believe these suckers cost very much to manufacture, but if you want both the bator and the turner you are gonna pay $100+... Where's my Oh S*$! face??? I just want to show my kids the miracle of life without breaking the bank. Other than my gripe on the price. I havn't used the bator with the turner, so I'm hoping my next hatch will be much better than my first (2 out of 15 eggs just isn't good numbers). So crossing fingers and hoping to remember to update my review!! PS. I'm using the thermometer that came with the bator and it reads a constant 99.5 (ideal) that we set it at. I put a digital (battery operated) hydrometer in the bater and with all the reservoirs filled keep at least a 67% humidity (60%+ is ideal) at the top of the bator.
