Ok, seems simple enough.....you soak your wood chips and then put them in the smoker. This takes a big problem out of the equation. Brillant idea!! I was always having to put another bowl on top of the soaking bowl to make my wood chips stay submerged. This cuts that step completely! Put your chips in it and the design itself keeps the wood chips under the water for however long you are going to soak them for. Holds just the right amount for my Masterbuilt upright smoker. Saves me time in having to clean the two bowls out and is small enough to tuck away in the cabinet for next use. Handy little gadget!! Anything to cut a step or two out of a task is awesome! Good concept Outset!!

A great option, certainly a lot classier than the coffee container with some holes punched in the plastic lid I was using before. The lid screws down to provide compaction. The jury is still out for me how beneficial soaking chips is, especially for smoking periods of less than two hours but when I do choose to drown the wood chips this gadget will be useful. The soaker works as advertised. Whether it makes sense is another discussion altogether.

This is a brilliant little product. I am always trying to figure out how to configure a pot or plate to fit into another one to keep the chips in the water rather than floating around on top. Because the top screws down and is adjustable this is great for anything from a small smoker to my weber. It's easy to use and light weight. Just put in the wood, place on the top, pour in the water, and let those chips soak! great idea

Adding smoke to a grill really enhances the flavor of meat. Soaking wood chips before is necessary, but can be messy. This is one of those products that make you say, "Why didn't I think of that?" Very clever design - place wood chips (I prefer Mesquite) in the cup and screw down the cap. Fill with water and let soak ( I heard a suggestion of wine or beer for the soak- maybe Jack Daniels? - not sure I'd do that, but it might just work).

Personally, I like the wood to soak longer - this lets you soak it as long as you want. Easy to clean and large enough to fill a smoker box. This is one item I will use regularly!

Very innovative product. No longer have to use a bowl to soak my wood chips in. Load up the wood chips, add water and screw on the lid, which moves down to keep the chips submerged. The lid has holes so you can dump off the water, unscrew the lid and pour the chips into the smoker pan. Easy concept that works.

Wow! If you’ve ever struggled with soaking wood chips before using them in your smoker or grill, this handy little wood chip soaker from Outset is a must-have! The design is so simple and it’s so easy to use. I wish I would’ve thought of it! All you do is put your chips in the soaker, screw down the cover, add water (or any liquid you’d like), and let the chips soak for a couple of hours. (No more worrying about keeping the chips submerged!) Then just pour the liquid out, unscrew the cover, and voila! Soaked wood chips with no muss or fuss! I think my wife likes this soaker just as much as I do, because it means an end to my pilfering Tupperware containers, mixing bowls, and countless Ziploc bags, all in the name of trying to figure out the best way to soak wood chips. Now, my search is over!

To be honest I never realized something like this even existed. What a clever concept! We've been doing it the archaic way by soaking the chips in a disposable metal baking pan. What were we thinking? This is made of really durable, thick plastic and almost resembles a really large travel coffee mug.

It's big enough to hold a substantial amount of wood chips. You place the dry wood chips inside the cup and then cover it with the lid. The inside of the cup has threading and so does the lid, so you can screw it down into the chips. This keeps them submerged in the water without having them float to the top. The lid also has holes for easy straining of the water once the chips are all soaked and ready to be used. The side handle allows for convenient carrying and pouring without worrying about spillage. This is a really neat product, I wish I had found it sooner! I'm also thinking about getting more of these as gifts.

In the past, I’d fill a mixing bowl with chips, cover them with water, put a plate on top to keep them submerged and then strain them with a colander for the grill. This may be a “unitasker”, but now I don’t have to dirty three things just to soak chips.

The cup holds about two cups of wood chips (or perhaps a tad less) and has a screw down perforated lid to keep them submerged and strain them. Because it’s so easy to fill, drain and empty, you can quickly load it for a second batch for long smokes.
