I'm using this to extend the remote control for a magnavox dvr from one room to another. I run the analog video feed from it to two room, and use the IR kit to receive the remote from one room and transmit to the other via cat5 cable. To do that, I just made an adapter for the IR emitter, to make that cable about 50 feet longer. Works perfectly. The other reviewer is correct, it's tough to spot where the IR sensor is for some equipment. This works, at least for the magnavox, when the emitter is up to 1234; or more away from the unit. Depending on your installation, that might make it easier to line up. The other suggestion I have is that if you want to make a room to room extension, to extend on the transmit side, as it's only 2 wires and shouldn't pick up noise. The receive units are 3 wire, and might pickup noise.
