These were recommended by Jim Lee and had purchased these to sketch in lighter lead and a lot faster to draft what I want for character poses. Not sure if I'll be going through this whole pack in my lifetime but it's nice to have a life time supply.

Use these pencils all the time. Not for drawing but to do crosswords. Much better than regular pencils and they last a long time.

Yes you can use a rotary pointer to sharpen these leads but you have to be gentle with it or it will break on you inside the pointer because it is not quite s hard as the graphite leads you use in the pointer and they do photograph if your camera is set to a color setting it isn't bad but it is there and I even tried to photograph them on a monochrome setting and it still picked it some I don't know if I am being to heavy handed with them or not and maybe that is why it photographed or maybe it is non photo on a copier or a scanner I don't know but it will pick up on photographs. that is why the four out of five star rating.
