Dynavox is known for producing high tech drivers for reasonable prices and the LW5002PPR-S is no exception. With smooth response and surprising efficiency this mid-woofer is an excellent driver for use as a midbass in 3-way systems or even a woofer for smaller 2-way bookshelf speakers.
For the LW5002PPR-S, Dynavox uses a carbon polypropylene composite cone attached to a rubber surround nearly eliminating unwanted cone resonances. Combined with the rubber surround, this driver's suspension also has a progressive spider, which helps keep cone movement linear for low distortion to the limits of excursion. Thanks to the 4-layer copper voice coil wrapped around an aluminum former quickly dissipating heat, 50 watts of power is no issue for this driver. In addition, the rigid cast aluminum frame of the LW5002PPR-S supports a heavy ferrite motor.
