My furnace was short cycling every now and then. It became more and more often as weeks went by. I watched some youtube videos about furnace problems and I concluded my problems to this particular part. From what I hear, during a cycle, my furnace would run the small blower then another noise from what I think is the pilot light and then attempts to get the burners running but stops abruptly. I cleaned the existing flame sensor and for about a week it worked fine then goes back to short cycling. I did this for a month and finally decided to replace the sensor, it is actually cheap. Now my furnace has worked flawlessly for a whole month. The difference between the old and new sensors is that the new one has lighter, shinier and consistent metallic color. The old one is dull, dark, and overall just discolored from its service life.
