I replaced the original Jet City JCA20H Chinese made tubes with the 12AX7LPS tubes since they were pretty cheap and well reviewed. They have a shielding that is supposed to help with the noise and I think they did help a little. It does not glow brighter but that does not matter to me. What does matter is the nice tone quality I get from these tubes. I also get more gain and breakdown while keeping a "musical" tone that I like. I play a wide range of sounds so I ofter use stomp boxes and they react well to those as well as the natural overdrive.

Rating tubes can be a tricky thing. I can guarantee there probably aren't too many preamp tubes you could mention that I haven't tried out including many NOS, 12AU7, 12AT7, 12AY7, 12AY7WA, etc. I didn't have very good results at all with this tube in bigger tube amps (e.g. 100 watt Marshall TSL100) but after trying out literally dozens of different type tubes in my small 1 watt tube amp (Hughes & Kettner Blues Master) this tube outshined the rest in regards to the tone I was after and I am a tone fanatic. I give it 5 stars easily :)

This is a great tube to through in the Phase inverter section of your preamp. I have a Peavey VK and it's one of my web communities recommended tubes for the V3 position Phase inverter. The tube is known for not burning very bright so be aware of that. As long as you have signal your good to go. Great tube.

I researched replacement preamp tubes for my Peavey ValvKing 112 and several suggested this tube for the V3 Phase Inverter (tube closest to the power tubes in the back of the amp). Here is a link to a good discussion: . I think this tube sounds much better than the Electro-Harmonix 12ax7 tube it replaced.

It's not quite a telefunken, but between this and a Tesla ECC803S, this is about as good as new production tubes will get.

Used a pair of these tubes in a phono preamp. These have good balance and a very satisfying tube sound. Good gain and very little hum. Only drawback is that because the filament is encased in the plates, they don't have much of that tube glow.
