I purchased this as a gift for my son's first birthday. He has a lot of interest in music and was drawn to the Remo lollipop drum in our music class. Unfortunately, the bongo falls a little short in my opinion.Tapping the drums lack the satisfying pop that I expect from a bongo. Rather, they emit more of a dull thud unless they are hit with a stick or at very particular location on the drum. That being said, a dull thud is A-OK for me when a 1 year old and his 3 year old sister are jamming out.The drums themselves can actually be separated, which is nice if you have two kids! They appear to be sturdy enough to withstand some toddler action.With a reputable brand such as Remo, my expectations were a little higher.

I actually really like the sound of this drum compared to other “toy drums”The pattern/pictures on it are really cute and it's inclusive! Children of many ethnicities, I love that.I was a bit worried that it wouldn't hold up well but it has. This was a Christmas gift so it's been “tested” now for a couple months of play.Definitely a great gift. Also, not annoying to me as many of the musical gifts I have given my son prove to be.

If you can stand then lose, go for it. Fun for alllll ages, and it will stay age-appropriate from toddlerhood through at least elementary years.
