Bought this to help rewire my house with ethernet cables, but I wish I had bought it sooner just to check patch cables. This product is extremely easy to use, but it is well worth the money for troubleshooting network connectivity problems or even piece of mind. Flip the switch and if all the lights show (in succession) then the cable is good to go. This product has saved me hours of troubleshooting. When my son's computer was experiencing intermittent connectivity I was able to rule out the cables in the wall and the patch cable as the root cause, and focus on the computer hardware and settings. Similarly, I was able to narrow down a different issue to a bad cable rather than replacing network hardware. Sure this device really does only one thing, but it does it extremely well and is the perfect tool to have ready for when you need it most. Note build quality is nothing spectacular, but for a plastic device it is solidly made. The included cables are very heavy duty and great quality. Overall a great purchase.

I used these to test the ethernet wiring in my new home.One thing that may throw you is that it is normal for no lights to show on the transmitter if the receiver is not connected. Other devices like this that I have tried do not have this feature.

The product is intended for GO NO GO evaluations of wire runs and is not designed to stress any of the conductors being evaluated--only to detect solid faults--but not those that might be intermittent. As such, it does a very good job as a basic tester, and I have used it quite often and have detected solid faults, be they open or short circuits, which proved very helpful. There are more sophisticated testers available at a higher cost, but for basic diagnosis, this unit does a very good job.

I just moved into a new house with plugs in almost every room (cat-5e and coax). This device is easy to use and helped me find the correct lines at the main junction box. Many of the lines were not marked correctly to start with, but now are. Great tool!

We just had a house built and the contractor that installed the cabling did not know what they were doing. Some cable ends were wired in reverse, some had wires flipped, and and there were more landline outlets than network. Who uses landlines? This cable tester let me know exactly which wires were in the wrong location and test the phone jack connections after I rewired them for network.Easy to use and easy to decipher the lights. I had one where the 7 8 wires were flipped. With my eyesight seeing the difference was not easy. With the lights on the device it was a breeze to see.The way they store with one sliding into the other is really nice.Highly recommended.

Was redoing my attic network cabling and adding cables for cameras/video surveillance. Could have paid almost same amount for prefab cables or a 500' spool to make my own cables. So glad I did and this tool quickly confirms proper connector connections at each end, even if the 2 ends are separated by a long distance. Worked perfectly! Seemed to be other similar products at less cost but no question this was a great time saving and accurate purchase! The vendor sounded more reputable than some of the others.
